We are ready under any scenario, we are and will be in active communication with our citizens. Such a statement made the Foreign Minister of Georgia when commenting on the recent developments in the Middle East.

“We are very attentive towards the developments in the Middle East. During the recent days, we have been communicating with the US Attorney in Georgia, as well as with other partners, given the fact that the developments concerned our strategic partner. In addition, the escalation of the situation in the region could have a detrimental effect not only on the region but beyond the region. It is in our interest to de-escalate the situation and it is very important that all diplomatic mechanisms be actively involved to defuse the situation.

Of course, we instructed all our embassies in the region and told them that we had our citizens in the conflict region. Citizens of Georgia are not in Baghdad. We have Georgian citizens in the northern part of Iraq and we have had active communication with them. We have already planned measures to help Georgian citizens in the worst-case scenario. They are in constant contact with the Embassy of Georgia. We do not have an embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, but we cover the country from Jordan. We are ready under any scenario, we are and will be in active communication with our citizens”, - concluded Davit Zalkaliani.
