Other judges of the Supreme Court will be elected by the next Parliament - Irakli Kobakhidze

Other judges of the Supreme Court will be elected by the next Parliament. Such a statement made the former Speaker of the Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, when answering a question whether the Parliament would consider a new 6-person list of candidates for the Supreme Court judicial vacancies.

According to Kobakhidze, the Parliament has considered the Venice Commission"s recommendation, according to which, the Supreme Court should be composed not only by this Parliament.

“We have publicly stated that we would take into account the Venice Commission"s recommendation that the current Parliament would not appoint more than half of the judges. As you know, this Parliament elected 14 out of 28 judges. Other judges of the Supreme Court will be elected by the next Parliament”, - said Kobakhidze.
