Opposition leaders issued a joint statement

Our task is to hold the 2020 elections in Georgia in a calm, normal situation, and to change the Government through elections, which will be an important step towards democratization in Georgia. This is the sentence from the joint statement of the opposition parties, which has been adopted at the Labour Party office after the leaders meeting.

“The decision of the President of Georgia to release Gigi Ugulava and Irakli Okruashvili is an important step towards fulfilling the March 8 agreement and normalizing the political situation in the country,

We also hope that Giorgi Rurua will soon be released from prison, after which the Parliament of Georgia will adopt the agreed constitutional amendments and steps will be taken to amend the election legislation on the basis of international recommendations.

By doing so, the country will essentially move towards a proportionate and fair electoral system. Completing this process is good for the country as a whole and for all its citizens, not for any particular party.

Our task is to hold the 2020 elections in a calm, normal atmosphere, to change the government through elections, which will be an important step forward on the path to democratization in the country.

After defeating the Georgian Dream in the election, the democratic Government must pull the country out of the current economic crisis and take key steps towards judicial independence, so that Georgia never faces the challenges of politicized justice and existence of political prisoners in the country.

We, the opposition parties, have decided to coordinate with each other to achieve these goals. Our task is to implement all the changes in Georgia only within the framework of the Constitution and peacefully, and to again change the government through democratic elections”, - reads the joint statement.
