They were pardoned after committing such serious crimes just because they put on political mantles. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia, while commenting on pardoning Gigi Ugulava and Irakli Okruashvili.

According to him, ordinary citizens are dissatisfied with this issue.

“As for this pardon, you should know that I have not changed my position at all. It is extremely hard for me when a person who stormed the Parliament on June 20, took part in organizing this storm, or when a person stole 50 million from budget, deserved some pardon just because they are politicians, or false politicians, they deserved some pardon. This is hard for me.

At the same time, talking about it is still secondary, because coronavirus has not been defeated in the country yet and there are forecasts of the second and third waves. We are absolutely motivated, firstly, to defeat COVID, and secondly, to restore the country’s economy, and thirdly, which is also extremely important, to hold elections in a peaceful and calm environment.

But I understand very well the anger of our citizens, who see the caste of privileged politicians, who were pardoned after committing such serious crimes just because they put on political mantles”, - concluded the Head of the Government.
