Negotiations are underway to secure the release of a Georgian citizen who was detained for illegally crossing the border by Russian border guards at the Dagestan section of the Russia-Georgia border.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Georgian Interests Section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Russia and the MIA have been negotiating between the Georgian and Russian sides and promise the Georgian citizen, D.V., will be released in the coming days.

On June 13, a shepherd informed the Lagodekhi Regional Office of the Border Police, that the citizen of Georgia was detained by Russian border guards at the Dagestan section of the Russia-Georgia border allegedly “on charges of crossing the border”.
