Russia continues to criticize Georgia and accuses official Tbilisi of destructive actions. According to Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Georgia is trying to politicize the coronavirus outbreak.
She made such statement after a video conference between the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and the co-chairs of the Geneva talks.
“The parties discussed the issues of regional stability and security during the pandemic. Moscow expressed concern over the destructive line of Tbilisi.
There are attempts to politicize the spread of COVID-19. In this situation, it is impossible not to be saddened by the Georgian government’s refusal to have constructive dialogue with Sokhumi and Tskhinvali about the current problems.
Georgia is expanding anti-Russian, anti-Abkhazian and anti-Ossetian rhetoric for no reason, including the issue of the borderization.
The political speculation on the issue of the action against the spread of coronavirus continues and in this respect, it is worrying that the Georgian government refuses to engage in a constructive dialogue with Sokhumi and Tskhinvali.
It is important to continue the Geneva International Discussions and Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings to find out a compromised exchange of positions for mutually acceptable solutions. The next round of Geneva discussions will be held according to the epidemiological situation – via videoconference or face-to-face”, - concluded Maria Zakharova.
