The Parliament of Georgia approved the draft amendments to the Constitution in the third reading, according to which, the 2020 parliamentary elections will be held with the proportion of 120/30. It means that the next Parliament will be composed of 120 MPs elected under proportional system and 30 MPs elected under majoritarian system.
117 deputies supported the draft constitutional law and 3 went against it.
According to the amendments, the 2020 parliamentary elections will be held under a mixed electoral system and with 1% threshold. The amendments provide for the so-called 40% locking mechanism as well.
