The Administration of the President released a statement addressing the Public Defender. According to the information, the Ombudsman never responds to the insulting statements made against Salome Zourabichvili, but responds to the attacks on other female politicians.

“The duty of the Public Defender of Georgia is to supervise the protection of the rights and freedoms of every person in Georgia.

However, during the election period, the Ombudsman avoided reacting to the abusive statements made against the female candidate or even the threats made against her children, which were later found true by the court.

The Public Defender never responds to the insulting statements made against the President, but at the same time responds to the attacks on other female politicians or the Ombudsman herself.

Unfortunately the Public Defender considered it necessary to assess the President’s July 15 statement on the basis of her misinterpretation.

Not only this statement, but all the speeches of the President condemn the violence and polarization and are aimed at reconciliation and unity. This statement calls young people not to violence but to repentance.

The President of Georgia, as the guarantor of the protection of the Constitution, human rights and freedoms, hopes that the involvement of the Ombudsman and oversight of the investigation into the death of Giorgi Shakarashvili will facilitate a thorough investigation, protect the family from bullying and the public from tension, ensure the protection of the presumption of innocence”, - reads the statement.
