Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia held an introductory meeting with the newly appointed Head of the EU Monitoring Mission - Marek Szczygieł.

Vakhtang Gomelauri congratulated Marek Schichgel on his appointment and wished him success in his future endeavors.

During the meeting, current situation in the adjacent villages to the conflict zone was discussed. In the process of illegal “borderisation” of Georgia carried out by Russia in Georgia, Gomelauri emphasized the importance of the EU support.

The Minister highlighted the significant role of the EUMM adjacent territory to the occupation line that represents the only effective international mechanism operating on the territory of Georgia.

In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the perspectives of further enhancement of the cooperation.
