The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia clarifies the purpose of the flight from Georgia to Belarus on August 16.
“The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Belarus, Valeri Kvaratskhelia, has been in Georgia since August 6. Because of the recent events in Belarus, his immediate return to Minsk has become necessary.
Due to the limited air traffic with Belarus, a decision was made to fly him on a Government plane. Belarus is a friendly country of Georgia, with which we have close cooperation, both in bilateral format and within the framework of the Eastern Partnership initiative. Accordingly, we closely monitor developments.
We are in close coordination with our partners about this issue. We believe that it is necessary to peacefully solve the problems in Belarus”, - reads the statement of the MFA.
