In comparison to the 2018 presidential elections, this year campaign has begun much better. Such a statement made today the Ambassador of Germany.
“We realize that Georgia’s political landscape is polarized. Despite past experience, and in comparison to the presidential elections held 2 years ago, this year campaign has begun much better. We study different factors which complicate elections including coronavirus that prevent political parties from holding meetings and campaigns with the voters. But first of all, I pay attention to the violent cases that are truly distressing.
I am concerned about the violent incidents that take place during the election campaign both in the regions and Tbilisi. For example, some party activists were beaten and party offices were attacked. This, of course, gives cause for concern. A few days ago, the parties signed a code of conduct that seeks to avoid hate speech and violence during the election campaign. All parties must show that they do not support violence, and they should do it together and unanimously”, - concluded Hubert Knirsch
