“At this time, it is clear to everyone that the investigation concerns the agreement reached by the Commission in 2006-2007, and not my tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Once again, I would like to share all the information I have with you publicly. I can also personally provide this information to the Prosecutor. I will start with the fact that during my term, the matter of state borders was really one of the most important issues on our bilateral agenda with Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts.

During my tenure, the Commission worked in both directions, however, a final agreement could not be reached with either party. During the last meeting between me and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, we received information from the Commission that several parts of the border remained unresolved, including the sections of Davit Gareji and the Red Bridge.

Due to the high political importance and sensitivity of the issue, my colleague Elmar Mammadyarov and I agreed to turn to the Presidents for a decision, because the issue could only be resolved at the highest political level.

I do not have any information on whether the issue was discussed by the Presidents during my post-ministerial term. Also, I do not know when or under what conditions the issue was redirected to the commission for discussion”, - writes Salome Zourabichvili.
