Minister of Finance links the depreciation of GEL to the current political tensions in the country.

“At this stage, there are no objective conditions for the fluctuations of the GEL exchange rate that we see. This is unequivocally driven by the expectations connected to the radicalism and political tensions that is in the country. At the same time, these tensions in turn contribute to the further spread of the virus.

Therefore, it is important that we all be responsible in this regard. No one is talking about restricting freedom of expression, but it is not difficult to use face masks, to distance ourselves and to refrain from making unconstitutional calls”, - said Ivane Machavariani.
