The best option is that we get a broad-based agreement and that’s the only good option out of this situation. Such a statement made the EU Ambassador to Georgia before the third round of negotiations between the opposition and the ruling party.
“As we are moving into the last week of negotiations before the parliament opens, we are going to have some difficult discussions and we have to be realistic about that. As facilitators, we succeeded in bringing the different sides together for talks and many good ideas have been put on the table. There is a menu in front of us. The facilitators will keep nurturing the parties to come out of these negotiations, as they are moving into the last play.
I think it is very important in every negotiation that all sides are doing their utmost to think about how to make their own positions the best possible, to find an agreement and also to assist the other side towards that point.
The sides have to make very difficult decisions. I hope that we would be able to find this broad-based agreement but I’m not in a position to say we make it. I hope everyone will be working hard to make sure that we reach a good outcome if that is possible”, - concluded Carl Hartzell.
