Russia, an occupying power, has redoubled its efforts to remove the Georgian issue from the international agenda - Davit Zalkaliani

Russia, which is an occupying power, has redoubled its efforts to remove the Georgian issue from the international agenda. Such a statement made today the candidate for the post of Foreign Minister, Davit Zalkaliani during a joint meeting of the European Integration, Diaspora and Caucasus Affairs and Foreign Affairs Committees.

“They are actively trying to establish a narrative that the situation in Georgia is different than in Ukraine. Therefore, their narrative is that Georgia must come to terms with the “new reality” and begin to talk about the obligations that Russia owes to the 2008 ceasefire agreement and shift it into our relations with the occupied territories. This is their narrative and they are telling the international community - tell Georgia to forget about bringing this security issue to the forefront of the international community’s agenda and accept that there are two “independent states” - Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region. Nevertheless, the consolidation of the international community and the mobilization of their support is one of the most important and effective levers we have, and our work should be evaluated in the light of the results achieved this year”,- said Davit Zalkaliani.
