The opening of the economy may start earlier than planned. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.
“Today, in the format of the Government, we have to address the issue that concerns each of us and our citizens - how to start the opening of the economy as quickly as possible, but safely and wisely.
When we imposed targeted restriction, it was late November, we had a specific objective. Unfortunately, at that time the prevalence rate of the virus was extremely high, exceeding 30% in some cities. According to today’s data, I can say that out of 18 000 tests performed, only 723 are positive, which is certainly good.
However, it has approached 4%. When we have a positive rate of 4%, we can start opening the economy in 7 days, and it seems that today"s trends allow us to be optimistic.
This applies primarily to Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Rustavi, and it certainly applies to educational institutions to enable our children to return to classrooms. Of course, this is accompanied by the launch of municipal transport. We must do this so as not to jeopardize the achievements we have”, - said Giorgi Gakharia.
