Parliament supports establishment of fact-finding commission relating to October 31 elections

The Parliament decided by a majority of votes to set up a fact-finding commission relating to October 31 parliamentary elections.

The relevant resolution, prepared by the Georgian Dream faction, was adopted by 78 votes. The commission was set up for a period of three months.

“For the opposition, I mean the opposition parties participating in the Parliamentary activity, and those who abstain from this process, the Commission will be open for participation.

International observers clearly stated that the elections have been held in a competitive milieu by adherence to the fundamental rights. Hence, we need to inspect all the claims concerning the elections. We need to investigate the existence of the gaps declared by the opposition and jointly find the truth.

The decision on the set-up of the Commission does not mean the immediate formation of this body. We need to communicate with the parties concerned and, within the reasonable term, set up the Commission and determine its composition.

This Commission is one of the instruments envisaged under the Constitutional reform undertaken by the preceding Parliament. The agenda also includes the reports by the Committees for 2020”, - said the Speaker of the Parliament Archil Talakvadze..
