Unemployment increased by 3.8% compared to the corresponding period of the 2020 and equaled 20.4% - GeoStat

In the IV quarter of 2020 the unemployment rate in Georgia increased by 3.8 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and equaled 20.4 percent. Such information released by the National Statistics Office.


In the IV quarter of 2020 labour force (economically active population) constituted 50.0 percent of the working age population (population aged 15 and older). The Labour force participation rate (economic activity rate) declined 0.5 percentage points, while employment rate by 2.3 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The Labour force participation rate (economic activity rate) in urban settlements increased by 0.8 percentage points, while that decreased by 2.2 percentage points in rural settlements compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The employment rate in urban settlements as well as in rural areas decreased by 2.4 and 2.3 percentage points respectively.


In the IV quarter of 2020, the share of hired employees was 67.3 percent among employed persons that decreased by 1.7 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
