The 9-hour meeting between the ruling team and the opposition ended without an agreement. According to mediator Christian Danielsson, important progress has been made on several points, but there was less progress on other issues.
“Ending the political crisis would be that Georgian political leaders can focus their full attention on COVID and it’s social and economic consequences, advancing on EU agenda and defending Georgia’s security interests in the region - those are the real challenges that this country is facing.
Some important progress was made on several aspects of President Michel’s 6-point plan - this is welcome and indispensable to address the underlying issues of the crisis.
However, on other issues less progress was made. I will return to Brussels this morning and I will report back to President Michel. Ultimately, the responsibility to find the solution of this political crisis is on Georgia’s political leaders, this is essential for country’s democratic consolidation and its European aspirations”, - said the special envoy of Charles Michel.
