If an agreement is reached there will be no winners and losers. There will only be winners and, in particular, one main winner, the people of Georgia, said Christian Danielsson, special envoy of the European Council President, after the meeting with the negotiating parties in Georgia.
“I had an important meeting with representatives of all the parties to prepare for tomorrow meeting. My objective today was to explore the ways to implement the most difficult points of this mediation effort. And it is a difficult process. Democracy requires taking into account the other party’s interests.
And, as I keep saying, that means compromise from all sides. In terms of process, I have told the party leaders that tomorrow I will put the text on the table. The aim is to build a sustainable framework for the future. It is also a way to bridge the lack of trust. It will address the need for systemic reform to increase public confidence in the electoral process and the judiciary. In the end, it is up to the parties to take the responsibility to sign such a document. This is an opportunity for the leaders to demonstrate their democratic maturity. Let me remind you that if an agreement is reached there will be no winners and losers. There will only be winners and, in particular, one main winner – the people of Georgia”, - said Christian Danielsson.
