Medical workers and relevant age groups living in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Regions will be able to get involved in the vaccination process

Healthcare professionals and respective age group residents of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions will get admitted to the COVID vaccination program in the territory controlled by the Central Government of Georgia. This decision was made at the Inter-Agency Coordination Council.

Procedures and schemes related to the process have already been defined by the Ministry of Health of Georgia in close cooperation with other relevant agencies.

“Today we have the opportunity to inform you that the current anti-covid immunization program in Georgia provides an opportunity for medical personnel and relevant age groups living in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region to be vaccinated in the territory controlled by the central government”, - said Ekaterine Tikaradze.

The Coordinating Council also discussed the epidemic situation in the country and the rise in the number of cases observed against the background of eased COVID restrictions. It was noted that the highest daily rate - 673 new cases - was recorded for the first time since the beginning of February. In addition, the incidence and test-positive case numbers are increasing, which is very noteworthy. The special importance of adherence to the imposed COVID regulations was underlined once again at the meeting, as the disregard of epidemic safety norms may put the country in the third wave of the virus, consequently leading to the need of new COVID restrictions. The Coordinating Council once again urges citizens of Georgia to practice social distancing, wear facemasks, avoid public gatherings as much as possible, as well as to keep away from organizing social events, which are prohibited with a Government Resolution.
