Georgian political class is focused on domestic political drama - George Kent

Georgian political class is focused on internal political drama, said US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent during a discussion on the Developments in the South Caucasus and Future Eurasian policy.

“Georgia instead of focusing on changing geopolitical challenges in the Caucasus or working on economic recovery after the pandemic, has made progress in domestic drama. We have sincerely told our Georgian friends, both in the government and in the opposition, that now is the time to focus on the challenges facing Georgia as a country, that is the internal political crisis in Georgia, which is provoked by the actions of both the ruling party and the opposition.

Each side must take steps to compromise and agree to advance the rules of the game so that Georgia can focus on national challenges, rather than partisan issues, which hinders Georgia"s progress and raises questions about the political culture and elite that for many years sought to integrate into Euro-Atlantic and European structures - the EU or NATO.

The first meeting of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee under Biden"s administration focused on Georgia, not on Afghanistan, Iraq or terrorism, but on Georgia”, - said George Kent.
