The release of Nika Melia on MEPs guarantee does not contradict the Charles Michel agreement - Lelo

The release of Nika Melia on MEPs guarantee does not contradict the Charles Michel agreement or the norms established by international law and is in full compliance with Georgian legislation. Such a statement released today Lelo opposition party.

“The proposed document clearly states: through amnesty and / or taking measures that will have a similar effect - for greater clarity, we offer an excerpt from a Charles Michel document.

The signatories commit to address, within one week of signing this agreement, the 2 cases of perceived politicized justice, either by an amnesty and/or by taking such steps as to produce an equivalent outcome.

Based on this, Lelo responded to the issue perceived as a politicized justice and took measures to address the current crisis. We appealed to the MEPs to stand surety for Nika Melia regarding his release, to which the MEPs agreed.

Now it’s the Government’s turn. We hope that the ruling team will be guided by the interests of de-escalating the situation”, - reads the statement of Lelo.
