Georgian Kvevri is the first non-food product to be added to the State Register of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications.
“Kvevri wine is becoming more and more popular in Georgia and on the international arena. We created a standard Kvevri, which takes into account the historical memory and heritage that we have”, - said Levan Davitashvili. the Minister of Agriculture.
In 2013, the traditional Georgian method of putting wine in Kvevri was awarded the status of a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Site. It indicates the uniqueness of this method and sends a message to the entire world that wine is an integral part of ancient Georgian culture.
