The Committee on Legal Affairs will discuss today the amendments to the Election Code in the second reading. A plenary session will probably be held this week.
A special novelty in terms of the electoral system is related to the local self-government elections.
In particular, the local self-government bodies elected in 2021 will be more proportional - in self-governing cities: Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Poti and Batumi, the ratio of City Assembly members will be 4 to 1, while in other municipalities the ratio will be 2 to 1.
The draft amendments to the Election Code envisage changes in the number of CEC members, the composition and the procedure for their election, the appointment of CEC members by parties and the termination of their term of office.
