Economic growth will relate to our people to the greatest extent and will not be exclusive to a few - Irakli Garibashvili

One of our main goals is to make the political and economic atmosphere foreseeable in the country to make sure that no fluctuation hampers the economic advancement of our country, said today the Prime Minister of Georgia in his keynote speech delivered at the presentation of a long-term development vision of the country branded as Economy 2030.

“I wish to present a long-term development vision of our government. We started thematic presentations last week. One of our main goals is to make the political and economic atmosphere foreseeable in the country. I will not recall things from a far past and stay away from reminding what path has been covered by our country in recent 30 years. You are well aware that when we regained our independence after the dissolution of Soviet Union, we witnessed a lot of ambiguous economic policies. As a result, we got ruined manufacturing, idle factories and plants, whereby many - hundreds of thousands - people lost their jobs and our population got impoverished. It may well be labeled as a tragedy. One of the main challenges in the development of Georgia, as we always say, after occupation, which is of course the prime challenge of our country, is the economic hardship and poverty of our people. Thus, one of the main priorities of our government should of course be economic advancement. What is most important - this plan, this policy should be absolutely transparent, open, engaging and foreseeable. We should make the environment foreseeable to make sure that no fluctuation hampers the economic advancement in our country.

Our main goal is to come up with a long-term development vision. First draft is available already and we stand ready to engage the businesses, NGO sector, our foreign partners and donors in this process absolutely openly, so that we perfect the document in about three upcoming months. Let us agree that it is a landmark framework document, within which we will be concentrating our efforts. Of course, this document may be subject to updates over years. We should all - Government and businesses - agree that this is the way forward, which will result in a realistically inclusive development, whereby economic growth will relate to our population at large and will not be exclusive to a few. Our main goal should be to at least double the economy by 2030, which may be an ambitious, but quite realistic plan”, - added Irakli Garibashvili.
