Vakhtang Gomelauri met with the representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Georgia

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri held a meeting with the representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Georgia.

At the meeting, Vakhtang Gomelauri discussed the events that developed in Tbilisi on July 1, 3, 5 in detail with the Ambassadors. In particular, the Minister informed the guests regarding the measures undertaken by the Ministry within the framework of Tbilisi Pride week for ensuring the rights to freedom of assembly and expression of citizens and measures carried out for their safety.

Vakhtang Gomelauri also reviewed the facts of unlawful interference with the journalist’s professional activities exercised against various media representatives, cameramen and journalists on July 5 during the counter-manifestation of Tbilisi Pride and the violence committed against them. The Minister of Internal Affairs has provided detailed information to the representatives of the Diplomatic Corps on the results of the investigative activities held within the frames of the ongoing investigation on the above-mentioned facts and the current situation in this regard.

He noted that all persons involved, will be brought to criminal responsibility in full compliance with the law within the frames of the ongoing investigation.

The Minister has also discussed in detail the investigative and procedural activities carried out by the police related to the death of Aleksandre Lashkarava - the cameraman of “TV Pirveli” which took place on July 11. As Vakhtang Gomelauri noted, a forensic-medical examination with the involvement of independent expert has been appointed to determine the actual cause of death.

According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the agency is actively conducting investigative and procedural measures and the Ministry will periodically provide the public as well as the representatives of the Diplomatic Corps with the updated information on the matter.
