Irakli Garibashvili visits Swiss Agriculture School in Caucasus operating in Dmanisi and offering tertiary education and practical skills to students

Prime Minister of Georgia visited a Swiss Agriculture School in Caucasus operating in Dmanisi village Ganakhleba together with Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and MP Kakha Kuchava, Chairman of the Parliament. College established with Swiss standard is specialized in cattle breeding, dairy production of milk and cheese.

Plantahof - the most successful agriculture school operating in Switzerland - is the main partner of the project, which ensures the development of curriculum, selection of materials, planning of education enterprises and re-training of teachers.

The main focus of the college is on the provision of tertiary education in cattle breeding and dairy production. At the same time, farmers and amateurs will be able to enroll for short-term courses and acquire professional skills.

Along with theory, practical education of students will be ensured at the tertiary education facility. Cattle breeding farm and modern dairy plant compatible with Swiss standards will operate at the premises of the college.

Students will themselves deal with a routine operation of the farm under the supervision of Swiss specialists, produce fodder for the farm, work at the lab, process milk to produce various dairy products, which will be sold at the shop operated by the college.

Infrastructure also includes a campus for 30 students and a boutique hotel for invited foreign teachers. Admission of students has started already and interested individuals will acquire tertiary education of modern standards from the upcoming academic year.

State will partially cover the tuition fee to be paid by students. A 2-year diploma studies will be admitting 30 to 50 individuals and their accommodation will be made available to them at the campus of the school.

The College will be offering various masterclasses and certificate programs to 400 individuals a year and they will benefit farmers, entrepreneurs and other interested individuals.

Total volume of the investment is about 14 million GEL. Project is supported by the Swiss Development Agency and United Nations Development Program (UNDP). College actively cooperates with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; National Agency for the Development of Agriculture. The latter helped the college in procuring the agro-industrial machinery and refurbishment of the demo farm for training.
