Prime Minister’s meeting with Foreign Minister of Uruguay

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili held a meeting with Francisco Bustillo, Foreign Minister of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.

The meeting discussed the relations between the two countries, pointing out that the visit of Uruguay’s Foreign Minister to Georgia will give a fresh impetus to deepening the friendly relations and bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Uruguay.

The parties singled out the Georgian side’s interest in upgrading the political dialogue with Latin America and intensifying trade, economic and cultural cooperation. The Prime Minister thanked the Foreign Minister of Uruguay for firmly supporting Georgia"s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The discussion touched on the political relations between Georgia and Uruguay, pointing out the high dynamism of the relations between the countries in the political direction, as evidenced by the frequency of high-level visits and meetings. The parties expressed firm belief that this positive trend will continue. The meeting specifically emphasized that, alongside political relations, the Georgian side takes a keen interest in further deepening its trade and economic relations with Uruguay. The parties expressed commitment to continuing work on identifying relevant areas and joint initiatives, including in terms of agricultural cooperation. It was also underlined that the visa-free travel between the countries is an important precondition for developing bilateral cooperation in the areas of tourism, culture, and deeper people-to-people contacts.

The meeting paid special attention to the importance of the recently opened honorary Georgian Consulate in Uruguay, an event poised to play a significant role in deepening the partnership between the two countries.
