Demanding the postponement of elections 1 month before the elections directly means political capitulation. Such a statement made today Shalva Papuashvili, Public Relations Secretary of the Georgian Dream.
“Today we all see that the opposition started a campaign to demand the postponement of the elections, using the pandemic as an excuse.
Demanding the postponement of elections 1 month before the elections directly means political capitulation, no matter how much they speculate as if they care about the health of the population.
During the almost 2-year period of the pandemic, we saw the irresponsible attitude of the United National Movement towards the epidemic situation, including the regulations. For some reason they only now remembered that Georgia is living in a pandemic.
The UNM campaign serves 3 purposes:
If necessary, to prepare in advance an excuse to boycott the local elections;
In case of participation in the elections, to declare after the inevitable defeat that this defeat was caused by a severe epidemic and as if the elections held did not fully express the will of the population;
Third, to conduct a discrediting campaign against the government in the pre-election period, as if we do not care about the health of the population.
As for the safe conduct of elections, we must separate the pre-election campaign and the election day”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
