Remarks by the EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell after signature of 19 April Agreement by UNM party chairman.
“As you know, today the UNM party Chairman signed the 19 April agreement, mediated by the European Union.
He did this on behalf of his party, including all UNM parliamentarians and without reservations.
This means now that 147 out of 150 elected Members of the Georgian Parliament have, at one stage or another, supported this agreement and all of its contents. Of course, at different times.
But I believe it is never too late to sign up to what is, essentially, an important roadmap for democratic reforms. And arguably it is not too late either to recommit to it.
It is my conviction that these reforms are, after all, for the benefit of all Georgian citizens.
For this reason, the European Union believes that the full implementation of all reforms set out in this agreement is in Georgia’s national interest.
We will remain ready to work with everyone who is committed to their realization”, - said Carl Hartzell.
