Central Election Commission released a statement about the pressure on the staff of the Election Administration.
“Despite numerous calls made by the election administration, representatives of specific political forces are still trying to disrupt the electoral process and discredit the elections.
Intensive pressure on the staff of the Election Administration (EA) continues. Besik Lachashvili, Chairperson of Saburtalo District Election Commission (DEC), received a phone call urging him to resign and pledging support in case of resignation. The author of the message is Zviad Kuprava, the candidate of the “United National Movement”.
Furthermore, several employees of the Central Election Commission also received a telephone message urging employees to refuse to participate in the organization of the elections and to make a public statement about it. The message says that if the CEC staff makes such a statement, they will accept the promise of inviolability. However, we do not know who owns the phone number from which the phone message was sent to the staff. This number is currently disabled.
In addition, the spread of disinformation related to the election processes continues. In particular, photos of voters" cards and misinformation were spread in social networks, as if voter cards issued in the name of the deceased persons, or cards of persons who do not live at that address were received at some addresses. We checked the disseminated information with the State Services Development Agency and we state that the above-mentioned does not reflect the truth.
We once again call on electoral stakeholders to act in accordance with the law and not to hinder the election administration from conducting the election process in a calm environment”, - reads the statement.
