The Penitentiary Service responds to the accusation of Koba Nakopia, a member of the United National Movement, that the prison administration closed the windows of Mikheil Saakashvili"s cell.
“The glass was changed only in the shower room, which was damaged a few days ago by Mikheil Saakashvili. The new glass is covered with a protective, transparent material that reduces the risk of glass damage. It also lets sunlight in the cell smoothly.
The statement goes on to say that Koba Nakopia’s other accusation saying that everyone except for lawyers has been banned from taking Mikheil Saakashvili"s letters from prison is not close to the truth as the accused or convict can receive and send an unlimited number of letters according to the law.
“"Herewith, we also note that at the meeting with the convict or accused, a person cannot give them letters or take their letters out of a prison cell. A similar practice does not exist in any of the penitentiary institutions under the Special Penitentiary Service, and information saying that this is a newly introduced restriction is a lie”, - reads the statement.
