Information about restricting Mikheil Saakashvili’s meetings and removing his TV is a lie - Penitentiary Service

The Special Penitentiary Service has released a statement regarding Mikheil Saakashvili. The agency calls former president’s accusations false and notes that the disciplinary proceedings against him have nothing to do with the decision of the state inspector.

“The Special Penitentiary Service responds to the false accusations spread by Mikheil Saakashvili and notes that the disciplinary proceedings initiated against him by the N18 Defendants and Convicts Medical Institution have nothing to do with the decision of the State Inspector.

The visit of the authorized employees of the institution to M. Saakashvili was conditioned to get acquainted with the protocol of his rights, which he refused and verbally abused the employees of the institution.

No disciplinary action has been taken against the convict so far for his violation, therefore, information about restricting Saakashvili"s meetings and removing his TV is a lie and serves to tarnish the image of the agency in the society.

The disciplinary proceedings were initiated by the director of the N18 institution on November 29, 2021, after it was found out (according to the conclusion of the examination) that the value of the item damaged by the convict was less than 150 GEL.

This action did not contain any signs of a criminal offense and represented the action provided for in Article 80 of the Detention Code, in particular, the convict damaged a cardiomonitor placed in his ward.

At this stage, M. Saakashvili enjoys the right to meet with both family members and the treating physician”, - reads the statement.
