The Georgian delegation to participate in the Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels

Tomorrow, the Georgian delegation headed by the Prime Minister will leave for Brussels, where the Eastern Partnership [EP] summit will be held on December 15. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, David Zalkaliani, stated about this at a briefing held at the Government Administration.

“This is an extremely important event that will determine the future prospects of the EP. This format is extremely important for us because it is one of the best ways to get closer to the EU. In the last 12 years, since the establishment of the EP format, Georgia has made very serious progress in this direction and I am sure that this summit will also be used by us to ensure the progress that the country has made towards EU integration is reflected in the adopted declaration, and also, we have expectations in connection with the EP Summit.

This summit was preceded by preparatory meetings, I was at the EP Ministerial, which was followed by the first visit of the Associated Trio to Brussels in the format of Prime Ministers, and these events were used to maximize our expectations.

I am sure that the declaration will be exactly in line with our expectations, in particular, it will reflect our European aspirations and European choices, as well as reaffirm the EU’s greater involvement in resolving the conflict and reaffirm our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is also important to reflect our desire to get closer to the European market.

Georgia will be maximally involved in EU programs and agencies. So, the expectations are really positive and I am sure that as a result of our visit we will have significant tangible results, which will determine the next steps in Georgia"s integration into the European Union. The time and period in which this summit is held is also very important. As you know, the geopolitical situation has changed significantly, it is necessary for us to be in constant contact with our European partners”, - said David Zalkaliani.
