Amidst the Russian aggression, we are receiving signals from Europe and the parliamentary resolution is a response to these signals - Nikoloz Samkharadze

Amidst the Russian aggression in Ukraine, we are receiving signals from Europe. The parliamentary resolution is a response to these signals. Such a statement made today the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

“We had a well-planned policy regarding the application for the EU membership. By 2024 we had to fulfill about 2/3 of the obligations under the Association Agreement and then make an application.

The situation has changed by the solidarity that the European Parliament did, so we are waiting for a debate in the European Council, which is the body bringing together the Prime Ministers and Presidents of 27 countries.

All these countries must support it unanimously, but no one should have the illusion that Georgia, Ukraine or Moldova are ready for membership. Amidst the escalated situation and Russian aggression in Ukraine, we are receiving signals from Europe, which can be used to accelerate that we are granted the candidate status. The resolution is a response to these signals”, - said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
