I will continue to be personally and actively involved in bringing Georgia closer to the European Union. Such a statement made the President of Georgia at a meeting with the delegation of the Security and Defence Subcommittee, Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament at the Orbeliani Palace.

The meeting focused on the current conflict in Ukraine, the occupied territories of Georgia, the situation in the region, the security of the Black Sea, the Association Trio and Georgia’s accession to the European Union, as well as the national consent process.

Salome Zourabichvili once again underlined Georgia’s European choice and noted that today the EU membership questionnaire will be handed over to Georgia today, which is an important step forward on Georgia’s path to Europe.

Speaking about the occupied territories of Georgia, the President stressed the importance of the activities of the EU Monitoring Mission and the expansion of its coverage area. She reiterated that Georgia’s refusal to use force is a steady decision.

The meeting at the Orbeliani Palace was attended by: Lukas Mandl, Vice Chair of the Security and Defence Subcommittee, Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament; Subcommittee members Juozas Olekas and Elena Yoncheva, as well as European Parliament Member Lars Patrick Berg.
