Police arrested a taxi driver on charges of illegal deprivation of freedom

The officers of Gardabani Police Division of Kvemo Kartli Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained a taxi driver, A.B. (DoB 1993), as a result of operative-investigative measures and investigative activities on charges of illegal deprivation of freedom.

The committed crime envisions from 7 to 10 years of imprisonment.

The investigation established that the defendant had an argument with two foreign nationals, D.S. and S.T. regarding the taxi service fee. After the argument, A.B. took the passengers to an unknown direction and told them that he would release them from the locked car only after paying 500 GEL. A.B. allowed the passengers to get out of the car only after they tried to make a phone call to their relatives about the incident.

As a result of search and investigation activities, the law enforcement officers arrested the taxi driver in the course of immediate police activities.

The investigation is underway into the fact of illegal deprivation of freedom committed against two persons under Article 143, Part III, Subparagraph "C" of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
