Prime Minister of Georgia met Sahiba Ali Ghizi Gafarova, Chair of the Milli Majlis today.
Dignitaries reviewed the friendly relations and strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan, particularly focusing on the intensification of economic ties and most significant connectivity projects in the region. It was noted that close cooperation between the Parliament of Georgia and Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan bears special importance in the bilateral relations between the two nations.
According to Irakli Garibashvili, resumption of meetings by the Intergovernmental Economic Commission is eagerly welcomed by the two countries. It is noteworthy that the first meeting was held in Baku during the visit of Prime Minister after a pause of 10 years. In the opinion of the Head of Government of Georgia, resumption of meetings is an essential factor for maintaining the regional projects and formats, as well as development and advancement, which will thereby increase the attractiveness of the region.
Transport and energy projects were particularly noted in terms of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Oil Pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (BTE) Natural Gas Pipeline, South Caucasus Natural Gas Pipeline (SCP), Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). It was mentioned during the meeting that it is essential to further develop the current projects with an aim of boosting the competitiveness of the region and ensuring connectivity with the West.
According to the Head of Government, the 30TH Anniversary of diplomatic relations is celebrated between Georgia and Azerbaijan this year and a number of events are planned to mark the date. Focus was also made at the meeting on the cultural and education ties between the two nations.
The Prime Minister thanked the Azeri side for the solid support of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia. In accordance with the Head of Government, Georgia remains committed to the peaceful resolution of the conflict. Discussion was also related to the State Strategy of De-Occupation and Peaceful Conflict Resolution.
Dignitaries also discussed the Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative of the South Caucasus. According to the Prime Minister, Georgia stands ready to continue with its role of active mediation to ensure peace and stability in the region. Attention was paid at the meeting to the military activities currently witnessed in Ukraine.
