The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili met with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, Co-Chair of the Geneva International Discussions, Toivo Klaar.

Minister thanked Klaar for the EU’s role in the peaceful settlement of the Russia-Georgia conflict and for the EU Special Representative’s personal contribution to this process.

Discussions focused on the importance of the Geneva Discussions and the need to fulfill Russia’s international obligations, including under the 12 August 2008 ceasefire agreement.

The sides also highlighted the Georgian government’s policy and efforts towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict and the all-nation inclusive process, which aims to develop a state strategy for peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The EU Special Representative pledged to remain actively engaged in achieving peaceful resolution of the conflict and improvement of the security and humanitarian situation on the ground.
