Within the visit to Germany, the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili held a meeting with the foreign policy spokesperson of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union of Bundestag, Jürgen Hardt and Social-Democratic Party Rapporteur for the EaP countries, Johannes Schraps.
The main topic of the agenda was the EU membership application submitted by Georgia, the progress of our country on the EU integration path, the security challenges in the region and the occupation of the Georgian territories by Russia.
Botchorishvili underlined the importance of granting the status of a candidate to Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova against the background of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, and the importance of clear support of the European perspectives of these countries by Germany and other EU member states. She stressed the progress in the implementation of the Association Agreement and expressed the commitment to taking effective steps for further approximation to the EU.
The parties underlined that in the context of the achievement of the foreign-political tasks, the provision of the political support of the Official Berlin is of vital importance.
Botchorishvili thanked the German MPs for their intact support to the territorial integrity, EU and NATO aspiration of Georgia and for their merit in the effective implementation of the non-recognition policy.
German MPs gave a positive assessment to the EU membership application of Georgia and the timely fill-up of a Questionnaire and hoped that this progress will be properly assessed upon the decision-making on the status of a candidate for Georgia.
