Salome Zourabichvili believes that Georgian citizens living abroad should be allowed to vote electronically. She voiced this initiative in her speech during the forum “Georgian Diaspora for European Future of Georgia”.
“We have more than a million people abroad and only a few thousand participate in the elections. How long can this last? Today there is an opportunity to participate in elections electronically. Perhaps it is time to move on to using this tool to enable Georgians living abroad to participate directly in voting.
It is not necessary to open a lot of election commissions. This would probably reduce polarization as well. There is still a lot we can do to make the diaspora more involved [in the life of the country].
Diaspora really is our strength abroad. For a small country [like Georgia], it is very important. We should know that they are the magnifiers and representatives of our country in the world”, - said the President of Georgia.
