I do not believe that there is any future for Georgia other than a European future. Such a statement made today the President of Georgia.
“I am in Brussels, where I arrived after my official visit to Italy to spare no effort with the EU leadership to support our candidacy. Unfortunately, the resolution adopted and more sadly the comments made by the ruling team following this resolution actually do not allow me to effectively defend our candidacy today.
I wanted to go to France, Poland and possibly Ukraine, to whom we should be grateful. If not them, there would not have been this expedited process. However, I received another refusal. After this refusal, as I was told that the Government had already done everything to support our candidacy and that there was no need for extra activity, I myself considered that it was probably not advisable to continue my visit.
This is not a case where I can completely save the Government’s inaction. I believe that I am responsible before the Constitution, because Article 78 of the Constitution obliges me to do my best to move this process forward.
I do not believe that there is any future for Georgia other than a European future. I do not think that we should sacrifice progress in this process to anyone, either [Mikheil] Saakashvili, [Nika] Gvaramia, or Bidzina Ivanishvili. No one is worth giving up the future of our kids. I am returning to Georgia to defend this future there”, - said Salome Zourabichvili.
