Investigative bodies did not do anything to initiate criminal prosecution against the organizers - GYLA on the July 5 case

Georgian Young Lawyers Association presented the results of the ongoing investigation regarding the events that took place on July 5 - 6, 2021.

“Today, 1 year has passed since the tragic July 5 events. We want to provide information to the public about what the state did, or did not do, to investigate the terrible crimes committed by violent groups.

We remember the encouragement from the high political officials of the state and the Prime Minister who gave the green light to the violent groups. We see problems with the ineffectiveness of the investigation. 30 persons have been identified in the case, for whom the punishment was not proportional in most cases. More importantly, beyond these 30 people, there are many more perpetrators who have not been identified and punished by the state.

The part of the organizers of the rally is also important, because the state and investigative bodies did not take any effective steps. We do not see any action against the organizers, despite the fact that there is a lot of evidence”, - said Nika Simonishvili, the Chairman of GYLA.
