On August 24, 1995, the Parliament of Georgia adopted the country’s main statehood document, the Constitution of Georgia.

This supreme law - building on the centuries-old statehood traditions of the Georgian nation and the 1921 Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, one of the most progressive legal documents of its era - lays the foundation for the comprehensive development of a modern democratic state.

It reflects a social contract on fundamental values, the common goals and aspirations of the people, also ushering in and protecting the rule of law, the rights and freedoms of each person, and defining the directions of political, economic, and social life - the Constitution is the key pillar of the Georgian people in the process of building a European state.

Unwavering commitment to and protection of the supreme law is the key precondition for civic unity, peace, prosperity, and the country’s stability and progress”, - says Irakli Garibasvili.
