Georgian Dream from the beginning put 3 specific reservations, which are against the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations - joint statement of the opposition parties and independent MPs

Parliamentary opposition parties and independent MPs - Strategy Aghmashenebeli, United National Movement, Lelo, Republican Party, MPs Tamar Kordzaia, Tako Charkviani, Armaz Akhvlediani, Shalva Shavgulidze and Nato Chkheidze - are releasing a joint statement regarding the work process necessary to fulfill the 12 recommendations of the European Commission [EC].

“Completing the 12 recommendations of the EC, obtaining candidate status and then becoming a member of the European Union is a historic opportunity and main task for Georgia.

Unfortunately, Georgian Dream from the beginning, immediately after receiving the recommendations, put 3 specific reservations, which are fundamentally against the implementation of the recommendations of the EC.

Reservation 1: De-oligarchization will not affect Bidzina Ivanishvili, and moreover, oligarchs are the founders of some opposition parties and critical media.
Reservation 2: Georgian Dream does not recognize the presence of clans in the judicial system and politicized justice, and tries to fulfill the recommendations related to the court by formally solving procedural issues.
Reservation 3: Georgian Dream in advance refused to fulfill the constitutional changes stipulated by the Charles Michel agreement and already agreed upon, and considers silencing the opposition spectrum and critical media, including the government’s anti-Western messages, as depolarization.

At the same time, ruling party launched an informational attack on the pro-Western opposition spectrum, NGOs, ambassadors, US and EU institutions, using the Russian hybrid warfare method, under the pretext that all of the above wanted to start a war in Georgia and open a second front.

One of the main messages of the leaders of the ruling party to the population was that receiving the candidate status is related to joining the war and not to the implementation of the recommendations of the EC.

We confirm once again that the most important political task is to fulfill the recommendations of the EC, for which we are ready to take responsibility for the initiatives presented by us and support all the initiatives necessary for the actual implementation of the recommendations of the EC”, - reads the statement.
