The Parliament of Georgia starts to discuss the President’s veto regarding the law on surveillance.
The Legal Affairs Committee will consider Salome Zourabichvili’s so-called motivated remarks on the draft amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code at the September 5 session.
The Venice Commission published its urgent opinion regarding the so-called wiretapping law, which was adopted by the legislature on June 7, 2022 and vetoed by the President, stating that “the draft law was adopted hastily and needs to be revised”.
According to the law, the deadlines for conducting covert investigative actions are being expanded and the circle of crimes on which covert investigative actions can be conducted is increasing.
At the same time, the rule of notifying the relevant person of the conduct of a covert investigative activity is being changed.
