The Georgia-EU Association Council will convene for the first time after Georgia has been granted a European perspective, which will be of special significance.
The meeting will start in Brussels, at 18:00, and will be chaired by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili. The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will lead the EU delegation.
The Association Council will discuss EU-Georgia’s relations, against the background of its EU membership application, with a focus on political dialogue and reform, economic and sectoral cooperation, trade and trade-related matters, and peaceful conflict resolution. Participants will also exchange views on foreign and security policy, notably regional issues.
Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Georgia’s Representative to the European Union, said that this meeting was of “particular importance” as the first meeting after Georgia receiving the European perspective in its bid for EU membership.
“We will talk about the political dialogue, the dynamics that exist between Georgia and the EU. This is the first meeting to be held after Georgia receiving the European perspective. Therefore, this meeting and this discussion will be of particular importance and in this context we will talk about the steps and the relations that we should build and develop between Georgia and the European Union”, - added Vakhtang Makharoblishvili.
