Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Culture between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany was signed on 13 September 2022, in Berlin. The document on behalf of Georgia was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, and on behalf of Germany - by the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock.
Being a comprehensive document, the Agreement aims to further deepen ties between Georgia and Germany in the domains of culture, education, science and people-to-people contacts.
The Agreement emphasizes the historical contribution that the Georgian and German nations have made to the global cultural heritage and highlights the need to exchange information and raise awareness about the rich culture of the two countries, including by delivering cultural projects and exchange programmes, as well as by bringing closer art and science representatives and the teaching staff.
The Agreement also envisages enhanced cooperation in the field of education, which can be achieved by developing contacts in the school, higher and vocational education, establishing stronger links between the academic and expert communities of the two countries, implementing students exchange programmes, offering greater scope of education to Georgian students, creating additional opportunities for learning the languages of the two countries, allowing the German international school graduates to continue studies at German higher education institutions.
The Agreement provides for the support for the Georgian diaspora living in Germany by offering them greater opportunities to preserve their language, culture, traditions and identity.
The comprehensive document also deals with cooperation in the areas of youth and sports, in publishing and library activities. Special attention is paid to the exchange of rich scientific potential and the need of closer contacts between the academic communities. The agreement also focused on cooperation in the area of dual academic programmes
It should be noted that the work on the cultural cooperation agreement between the two countries resumed in 2013.
