If there is no consensus around the law on de-oligarchization, we will not adopt it - Irakli Kobakhidze

If there is no consensus around the law on de-oligarchization, we will not adopt it. Such a statement made today the Chairman of the Georgian Dream.

“The matter is simple, the Ukrainian law, which is not tailored to anyone, is not tailored to any Georgian politician, has been sent to the Venice Commission, which approved it, and we offered it as a basic version to the opposition. Immediately there was objection for 1 simple reason - they saw that this law cannot affect Bidzina Ivanishvili, but it may affect many of their representatives, many of their leaders, including, first of all, [David] Kezerashvili, who owns a media organization and directly interferes in political processes.

They don’t want to pass this law. Yesterday they were talking about developing a law that would be tailored to [Bidzina] Ivanishvili. They said this openly and publicly. Basically, they do not understand the essence of the principle of the legal state.

One of the main principles when making a law is that it cannot be tailored to any individual. When they were in power, they trampled the principle of the legal state. Now, as they are in the opposition, they have the same approaches, which is a sad thing. We cannot adjust laws to anyone.

Therefore, we took the Ukrainian law, which was approved by everyone, and we are proposing it to the opposition. If they want to participate in this, we are ready to adopt the law, if not, then we will not adopt it”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
